A fifty-year golden anniversary has always been recognized
as a very special occasion, so as St. Matthew’s embarks on its 50 year anniversary
in the year 2008, it is appropriate to recognize and honor our past as a basis
for laying the foundation for what lies ahead in our future. We acknowledge and
give thanks to God for blessing St. Matthew’s over these 50 years, and pray for
His continued blessings into the future.
In response to the occasion, our rector, The Rev. Merrill
Wade, has created a Steering Committee to help plan and oversee the anniversary
year activities. The Committee
Chairpersons are Kay and Leon Whitney and Margie and Bert Hooper. They welcome any comments or suggestions you
may have to make this a glorious celebration year. The members of the Committee are already hard at work. If you would like to be involved with the Committee’s
work, please contact one of the Committee Chairs.
The 2008 Anniversary Celebration Year will have several traditional
as well as new events during the year with special elements connecting them to this
Golden Anniversary. We kicked off
the anniversary year at the annual parish meeting on January 6, 2008.
The calendar at the top of the page identifies additional programs
that include special anniversary events or activities in 2008. There may be other programs not listed that will have special anniversary events.
As plans become firm, you will be notified via the Weekly Word, Monthly
Word, Web Site and Parish Email. Get
out that 2008 calendar and mark down these special events!
