Centering Prayer

The Centering Prayer Workshop, led by the Rev. Sandy Casey-Martus in March of 2004, introduced several of us at St. Matthew's in a prayer discipline called Centering Prayer started by Fr. Thomas Keating, a leading figure in the revival of this centuries-old discipline of Christian meditation. Centering Prayer consists of silent meditation twice a day for 20 minutes when we open ourselves to the presence of God, to God's love and God's healing grace. Over the course of days, months and years, this practice allows God to transform our lives and redirect our wills to the fulfillment of God's purposes in the world.

The participants of this workshop have decided to meet weekly to continue the practice together. We will begin promptly at 5:30 every Thursday in B-14, meditate for 20 minutes, view together a tape by Thomas Keating for 20 minutes, and conclude promptly after 20 minutes' discussion. All who desire to practice Centering Prayer are invited to join us. For questions or more information, contact The Rev. Susan Barnes at the church (345-8314) or by email Susan@StMattsAustin.org.
