Ministry of the Month:
El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission
The mission of El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission is to transform lives by engaging the strengths of working-poor Hispanic families to promote their successful participation in society. Since 1987, El Buen Samaritano has become a beacon of hope in the lives of these families. By providing a safety net of vital programs and services, El Buen has helped individual and families leverage their resources, enabling them to change the future trajectory of their lives for generations to come. Most importantly, through the delivery of programs such as integrated healthcare, English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) education, job readiness skills, social services, health education, leadership training, children’s programs and emergency food assistance, El Buen Samaritano guides working-poor families through the process of gaining self-sufficiency and leading healthier, more productive lives.
St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church has been a friend and loyal supporter providing financial resources and volunteer services for many years. By the end of 2007, St. Matthew’s will have contributed $2,500. To illustrate the impact of this gift, your donation has helped support two families by providing them essential food for a year, has given a newborn child a healthy start, and has helped six students take ESL classes for a full year.
The Reverend Ed Gomez, Executive Director of El Buen Samaritano recently recognized St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church at the 20th Anniversary Celebration, thanking parishioners for supporting El Buen Samaritano as it was getting off the ground. He thanked St. Matthew’s for our continued support and for the many volunteers who serve selflessly. He recognized our very own parishioner, Dr. Guy Blumhagen thanking him for his service and dedication to the families at El Buen Samaritano. St. Matthew’s is pleased to be a part of this great organization and we look forward to continuing to support this agency as it evolves and grows, creating new innovative programs to serve those in need.
