Legacy of Leadership - 9:15 in Huffman Hall
Join us in Huffman Hall on April 27, May 4 and May 11 as we learn about the election of a new bishop that will occur in the Diocese of Texas on May 24th. We will discuss the vocation of a Bishop, the nature of orthodoxy, and will also explore the lives and biographies of past bishops. Emphasis will also be placed on the examination of a Bishop in the BCP, the ministry of a Bishop, and the specific and unique needs and mission of the Diocese of Texas.
Creative Challenges and Crises in the Church - B18
On April 27, Anne Province will look at the origins of the Pentecostal revival--again about 100 years ago. Our year-long survey of the challenges the church has faced through her 2,000-year history concludes with two special guest speakers in May. On May 4, Greg Garrett, novelist, musician, celebrated professor of English at Baylor University, and graduate of ETSS will speak to us about the challenge of the Civil Rights movement. May 11 is Pentecost, one Sunday service, no Sunday school classes meet May 18, The Rev. Jaime Case, Canon for Multi-Cultural Ministries of the Diocese of Texas, former Executive Director of El Buen Samaritano, and long-time friend of St. Matthew's, will speak to us on the challenge of Multi-Culturalism today.
All are welcome in B-18.
The Sunday Morning Adult Bible Class – B-21
In March of 2008 our class begins a study of the last book in the Bible, The Revelation. As is our custom, we will use a discussion format with a group leader to guide us. Before beginning, it would probably be helpful for as many of us as possible to read The Revelation completely through, as if receiving a letter from someone. Other advance reading on the topic is encouraged, but not at all required. There are lots of interpretations of this book. In our discussions, we will endeavor to get a good view of the forest without being distracted by all the trees. Please join us in Room B21.
The Sunday Morning Book Group – Day
School/Education Building Room 1
Sacred Thirst, a book by M. Craig Barnes, will be the basis for study and discussion at both the Early Adult Sunday School class that meets in B-10 and the Sunday Morning Book Group class. Participants are buying their own books, opting for used or new. Books can be provided by request. For more information, contact Linda & Jim Fryer, 372-9832.
Our intent is individual
spiritual growth through study of one chapter and small group interaction. We welcome new members throughout the year
as each Sunday’s topic stands alone.
You can easily listen, join in, or contribute even if you have not read
the chapter in advance. Those who
attend will be invited to share prayer requests and their week’s events during
coffee time. The books will be provided
to those persons who attend. An
occasional social event additionally unites the group.
The Discovering Christian Community Class- B-14
On February 17 Jim Byrom will be leading our first class of the new year. We
will have some thought provoking discussions as a group, then break into
smaller group discussions.
Living What We Believe Class - B-6
Each week we read the Gospel
assigned in the Book of Common Prayer for each Sunday according to the Church
year and we attempt to recognize how it applies to our daily life. It is
amazing how the insight of one person's experience stimulates the lives of
others in the class. This small group discussion is lively and
sometimes very moving. The class is open to all and you don't have to
attend each class to benefit from our discussions. Come join
us.
