Outreach

St. Matthew's, through the leadership of the Outreach Commission, is currently supporting many active outreach ministries. The Commission regularly informs the parish about the ministries, the people involved and the way in which St. Matthew’s supports the organization.

On-going Outreach Ministries

The following ministries are supported by our members year round. Please click on the name of the ministry if you are interested in joining their efforts or for more information.

Good Faith Fund

At St. Matthew’s we take the first Sunday loose offering from the alms plate for those who appeal to our church for special needs.
Most recipients are not members of our congregation and must go through an application process which is reviewed by the Good Faith Fund Committee. We help with such things as utility bills, rent payments, car payments, etc., helping individuals and families get on their feet in hard times.
Click here for more information on the Good Faith Fund.

Mission & Evangelism

Mission trips for the youth and adult members of our parish are regular activities on an annual basis.
The Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, General Theological Seminary in New York, New York, and Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, are recipients of our financial support and we offer moral and spiritual support to our St. Matthew’s Day School.

Ministries of the Month

Outreach Ministries of the Month are carefully selected and are required to fulfill the following:

  • Have a parishioner to be the contact/leader
  • Complete an application
  • Provide a current operating budget, list of Board of Directors and a copy of non-profit status.
  • Allow an on-site visit by the Outreach Commission Chairperson
  • Submit all materials to the Outreach Chairperson 10 days before the March or September Outreach Commission meeting which is typically held on the second Wednesday of the month.
  • Individually we have many representatives who give of their time and talents outside our own church community to such organizations as Habitat for Humanity, Safeplace, Kairos Prison Ministries, El Buen Samaritano, and Austin Area Interreligious Ministry, Interfaith Hospitality Network, to name a few.

"Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"  The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
