An Advent Ministry
Having problems with your Christmas Gift list? What could be better than sharing Christ’s love with the less fortunate? Isn't that Jesus’ message to us? Wouldn't it be the gift Jesus would like us to give?The Perfect Gift is the answer! Beginning the end of November and continuing until the end of Advent, The Perfect Gift table will be available in the Commons before and after the 10:30 Sunday service.
Make a donation to The Perfect Gift and you will receive a gift card to give to a loved one or friend explaining that you have made a donation in their name to the following St. Matthew’s Outreach ministries:
- Austin Area Interreligious Ministries: AAIM brings together different faith and cultural groups to foster mutual respect and understanding. These diverse groups work together to "walk for hunger" (CROP Walk), rehab houses for the poor (Hands on Housing) and help people, new to our country, to assimilate to a new culture.
- Hope House: By providing unsurpassed care and love for its residents, Hope House strives to fulfill our baptismal covenant to serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves. Hope House provides a supportive, permanent home where residents with profound mental and physical challenges are happy and free to realize their potential.
- Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN): an effective shelter program for families with children 18 years and younger. IHN leverages the facilities and resources of a wide range of faith communities in Austin to provide housing and meals. With help from caseworkers provided by the Foundation for the Homeless, families increase their ability to obtain and to maintain safe, secure housing upon exit from the Network.
- Nets for Life: a consortium of funding and implementing partners that work through churches and ecumenical partners in Africa to mobilize grassroots communities to prevent, recognize and treat malaria. NetsforLife is also distributing one million long-lasting insecticide-treated nets in 16 countries over a three year period.
- St. James' School: inspires thinking that leads to academic achievement and prepares children for life as leaders, problem solvers, and self-reliant individuals with unquenchable thirst for knowledge. They are one of the few schools in Austin offering exceptional learning in a diverse environment in East Austin.
- Warmheart International: a community of Christian compassion, raising funds and awareness for freshwater access and sanitation, medical care, orphan care and education, and youth-to-youth relationships in communities worldwide.
