Caritas

The Caritas Food Program has a vision that each household that attends Sunday services brings a can/package of food selected from the Caritas Grocery List. We estimate that 200 households attend each Sunday, so a year’s participation is 10,400 pounds of food. The vision sees a weekly flow of food and cash.

You may also purchase a food item by donating a dollar to the cash box. The cash boxes are located on the tables with the food in the Commons area, in Huffman Hall, and downstairs close to the elevator.

Cooking for Caritas: St. Matthews has long generously supported Caritas.  Now that our kitchen has been upgraded, we will be further enhancing our support of Caritas.  On the third Monday of every month, beginning in September, we will be providing Caritas with a fully cooked meal to be served at their location.  All that we need to make this happen is your help.  We need volunteers to help prepare the food on Sunday after church, and volunteers to cook the food and deliver it to Caritas Monday morning.  Please contact Scott Telfer at 656-5588 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Caritas of Austin serves a free lunch every day to approximately 250 to 350 people, and welcomes volunteers to help prepare and serve the food.  If you are interested in helping serve a meal at the Caritas Community Kitchen, please contact Jeff Hobbs ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We also support Caritas financially  with an allocation from the Outreach Operating budget.

See CaritasOfAustin.org for more information about Caritas.
