The Community of Hope trains volunteer lay people to become lay pastoral caregivers. Lay pastoral caregivers are available to visit those who are homebound or in retirement centers, nursing homes, hospices, hospitals, and any others in our parish who are in need of pastoral care. The Community of Hope – International defines pastoral care as “when a person is being ‘present’ in a listening, compassionate, non-controlling manner to an individual or group for the purpose of consciously or unconsciously representing God to them and seeking to respond to their spiritual needs.” Lay pastoral caregivers (Community of Hope members at St. Matthew’s) attend monthly Circle of Care meetings. These meetings serve as continuing education, and ongoing support of their ministry.
