To Know Christ, Grow in Christ, and Share Christ’s Love.
Welcome to Our Guests! We pray that your visit to St. Matthew’s will richly bless you and that you will come back again soon. Please fill out the Welcome Card located in the chair slot in front of you. Place the information portion in the offertory plate and affix the name tag so that we may identify and welcome you. And we have a special gift for you so please stop by the Welcome Table in the foyer after the service. For information about St. Matthew’s, call Barbara at 345-8314 and visit our web site at www.StMattsAustin.org
The Church Offers Nurturing, Experienced, Child Care for children who are infants to four years of age. Because of the small number of children who attend the 8:00 a.m. nursery, all children ages infant to years of age four are in the Education Building nursery beginning at 7:45 a.m. At 9:00 a.m., children below two years old are taken to the Huffman Hall Nursery (located on the parking lot side of the hallway) and children from two to four years are cared for in the Education Building nursery. Both the Huffman Hall and the Education Building nurseries close at 12:15 p.m. There is also a comfortable, soundproof room in the church balcony (sanctuary) for adults who wish to keep their babies with them during the service.

On the memo line was…Thank you for being so thoughtful in putting a clear notation on the memo line of your checks. We rely on this consistently. It is essential to our budget, our accounting process, and to your contributions record. With so many on-going programs, organizations, and special events in the life of St. Matthew’s, your short, simple note on a check makes all the difference in the world to the accuracy of our work in the office. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated.

*Baptism Instruction -- for Children of God of all Ages
Holy Baptism is the sacrament through which we become children of God, members of our church family, and inheritors of the kingdom of God. This is such an important step in one’s spiritual journey, that we ask that any person – child or adult – being baptized join us for Baptismal instruction. Children who are old enough to “ponder” and any adult interested in Baptism are asked to join us on Wednesday, Aug. 16th and Wednesday, Aug. 23rd from 5:30 – 7:00 to explore the meaning of Baptism and what it means to be a part of God’s family. In addition, there will be a class for all candidates for baptism, Godparents and sponsors on Sunday, August 27th from 9:15 – 10:15. Baptism will take place on Sunday, August 27th during the 10:30 worship service. For more information, please contact the church office – 345-8314 – or Kathy Dugat (343-7989 or kdugat@austin.rr.com).
Merrill, Susan and the Wardens cordially invite you to the next VESTRY MEETING at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday August 29th in
Room B-18 at Learn first hand about where the church is going, then you can tell others where to go.
The Ministry of Money Counting. Like most churches, we rely on volunteer members of the church to count cash and checks received each week. We, like most churches, also separate the accounting process from the money handling. Volunteers count the money and make deposits. The bookkeeper and the business manager do the accounting. This separation of tasks is one key in sustaining the integrity of our financial operations. We need some help. We need several more volunteer members to help with the ministry of counting the receipts. The first workday of each week, typically a Monday, occasionally Tuesday, three volunteers respond to this call for ministry. If you would like to volunteer your time and talent in this kind of ministry, please contact Clyde Carman at 740-5743 or Csc797@hotmail.com
Lu Ann Barrow’s “Soul Journers: friends, family, and the fabric of daily life” will be on view at the Austin Museum of Art, 823 Congress Avenue, August 19– November 5. Come see this retrospective of LuAnn’s painting! For more information go to www.AMOA.org
Rector's Downtown Men's Group - if you work in the downtown area you are invited to join Merrill Wade and Paul Williams for a Monday study group that will gather for 6 weeks beginning Monday, August 14. The group will gather from 11:30AM - 1:00PM with a time of study and discussion each week from 12Noon until 12:55PM. This is a "bring your own lunch" event and Paul will furnish coffee and cold drinks. We will meet at the 509 West 12th Building on the southeast corner of 12th and Nueces, with parking on 12th Street on the east side of the building in a small lot available to us for this purpose. Our first week the Rector will talk about his career in the oil business and reflect on the some of the moral and ethical issues he faced. The goal of this group is to help one another bring Christian influence into our work week. The maximum size of the group will be 15. Please email Merrill at merrill@stmattsaustin.org and let him know if you are interested.
**Sanctuary A/C’s Done, Lighting Next – What Else?**
The new A/Cs serving the sanctuary are installed and working. They have been programmed to cool the sanctuary, commons, balcony and cry room on Sundays to 70 degrees. The cycle is in two parts, 6:30am to 1:00pm and 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Once the new lighting is installed in the sanctuary and we return to our normal schedule of classes and meetings, we will program additional cycles in the thermostats.
The lighting work has been delayed one week because of the unavailability of a scissor lift. Austin is experiencing a record period of construction which has put a great demand on construction equipment, labor and material resources. This Monday we finally will begin. All lighting work will be managed so that services can be held in the sanctuary on Sunday. The deadline for completion is Labor Day weekend.
We have begun to receive bids for replacement of the roof on the sanctuary. A contractor should be selected shortly.
Next, we will solicit bids for the five A/Cs that serve the basement area.
We have also met with representative of Austin Energy to explore the feasibility of participating in their free thermostat program to manage our A/C’s more efficiently. They have done an inventory of our equipment and will soon respond with a proposal. As we have more details, we will share them.
