Welcome to Our Guests! We pray that your visit to St. Matthew’s will richly bless you and that you will come back again soon. Please fill out the Welcome Card located in the chair slot in front of you. Place the information portion in the offertory plate and affix the name tag so that we may identify and welcome you. The Church Offers Nurturing, Experienced, Child Care for children who are infants to four years of age. Because of the small number of children who attend the 8:00 a.m. nursery, all children ages infant to years of age four are in the Education Building nursery beginning at 7:45 a.m. At 9:00 a.m., children below two years old are taken to the Huffman Hall Nursery (located on the parking lot side of the hallway) and children from two to four years are cared for in the Education Building nursery. Both the Huffman Hall and the Education Building nurseries close at 12:15 p.m. There is also a comfortable, soundproof room in the church balcony (sanctuary) for adults who wish to keep their babies with them during the service.
Personal Prayer Teams are available during Communion at Prayer Stations on either side of the sanctuary. One station is located on the east side, by the windows, and the other station is on the west side in the gallery. Prayers will also be offered immediately after church by the team stationed near the windows. Prayer requests and discussion are completely confidential.
Home Delivery of Holy Communion If you are unable to come to church and would like Holy Communion brought to you on Sunday, please call the church office at 345-8314.
If you attend church but are unable to walk to the altar for Holy Communion, please notify an usher and the communion elements will be brought to you where you are seated.

In Chapel Today:
The focus of our Chapel lesson today was All Saints' Day. We learned that there are Saints "with a capital S" who serve as wonderful role models and teach us incredible lessons about God's love for his people. We also learned that each and every day we are surrounded by saints "with a little s." A saint is someone who loves God and shares God's love with others. When we see saints at work right here in our lives, we are really seeing God! Imagine that! We can actually "see God" in each other every single day! What can YOU do today...right now, today...to share God's love with someone in your life? Thanks to our wonderful first Sunday chapel team for bringing this lesson to life for us: Vicki DeWeese, Marjorie Bounds, Christine Darby, Marilyn and Ken Wright, and Mia Johns.
*All of our saints honored today -- including deceased friends
and family of St. Matthew's members. This partial list includes all names
received through 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31. bcm
The list is enclosed in the Sunday bulletin
and is also online in this week’s Prayer List.
*Centering Prayer to Return on Thursday evenings – in response to renewed interest, an initial meeting to work out details will convene on November 9 in B-14, 5:30 pm. Call Jim Williams (345-4614) if you are interested but cannot attend this meeting. See announcement in monthly Word and on the website, www.stmattsaustin.org. If you participated in Centering Prayer at the Parish Round-up and would simply like to know more about it, call Jim Williams.

Prayer for the Parish
Gracious and loving God, heavenly Father,
* You fashioned for your people a home on earth amidst the beauty of creation. You always provide for the earth, for the land and creatures, and for the needs of your children.
* We come to you now seeking your perfect plan for St. Matthew’s. We pray that you will guide us as we strive to strengthen our faith community: better to know you, to love you and, through serving you, to share the healing power and presence of Christ’s love.
* Even as your people trusted you to bring them to the promised land, we look to you to lead us in all things. We trust you to bring the plan and the means to help us accomplish your work.
* We thank you for the abundant blessings you have already brought to this parish, and pray that we may continue to serve you in faithfulness and love.
* Through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and everAmen

For Global Good
Presiding Bishop invites Church to widen ‘shalom’ by taking up U.N. Millennium Development Goals
In this octave of the Feast of All Saints, at this time of remembering the interconnectedness of communion and community, Katharine Jefferts Schori has begun her ministry as the Episcopal Church’s 26th Presiding Bishop. Here she encourages each Episcopalian to care for all creation by living a local life for global good.
by Katharine Jefferts Schori
The Episcopal Church adopted a set of mission priorities at its General Convention in June. First among them is justice and peace work, framed by the Millennium Development Goals. We understand this work as a visible sign of the work of building the Reign of God. A vision of the Reign of God lies behind the ancient Hebrew concept of shalom, which means far more than simply peace. Shalom has to do with the restoration of all creation to right relationship with God, so that the hungry are fed, the grieving comforted, the ill are healed, and prisoners set free. The mission of the church, according to our Catechism, is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ (Book of Common Prayer, page 855). That work of restoration and reconciliation frames all our ministry as Christians, whether we are students, parents, legislators, or farmers. We cannot be at one with our neighbors if some are starving or living in slums. The work of achieving the Millennium Development Goals is intimately wrapped up in the promises we make in the baptismal covenant to engage in God’s mission.
The other priorities adopted by our General Convention include work with young adults and youth, congregational transformation, reconciliation and evangelism, and partnerships within the Anglican Communion and with other faith communities. The first priority has important connections and impacts on the others – for example, partnerships in developing countries, often through Anglican churches, are essential and intrinsic elements of addressing most of the MDGs, and our youth and young adults will experience part of their formation as Christians in service to others.
The Millennium Development Goals seek to end the deep poverty that limits human flourishing. Achieving them would provide concrete examples of the abundant life Jesus insists is the reason he came among us – “I came that you might have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
The Millennium Development Goals:
Some Episcopalians understand the mission of the church as solely focused on evangelism; others would see outreach work as primary. The baptismal covenant addresses both, and this first priority of the Church is the kind of deed-based evangelism that shows the world the good news of God’s love through the actions of Christians. We can neglect neither, but we cannot speak much in the way of good news to people who are starving or dying of preventable disease. We must begin by doing good news with those who are most vulnerable. In and through both, God is glorified, and all creation can begin to experience the shalom for which we were created.
